James V. Lee was born December 10, 1926 to Rita Belle Greenlee and Judson Warren (Dud) Lee in the O. K. Community near O’Donnell in the Texas Panhandle. Besides O.K., he grew up in various locales in West Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. When his mother remarried, he was finally able to call home a small farm west of Ackerly, Texas.
James was graduated from Abilene Christian College (now university) in 1949 with a Bachelor’s degree in English and earned his Master’s degree in education from Southwest Texas State University. James married the former Hazel Juanita Lee (yes, same last name, but no kin) in 1949. They enjoyed a sixty-two year marriage before Nita passed away in 2010. Kerry and Gail are their only children.
Starting with his service in the U. S. Navy, James has led a varied and interesting life as a successful salesman and educator. As a civilian teaching aboard U. S. Navy ships for five years, he traveled extensively in thirty-six countries, most of the oceans of the world, and “more islands than I can remember.” His interests include traveling, writing, and physical fitness.
James passed away peacefully June 2, 2020 and is in the care of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. His family thanks you for all the love and support shown to James in his lifetime and in all his endeavors.
